Surface Texture

Adequate macrotexture in surfacing materials is required to allow for the rapid drainage of surface water from the tyre and road pavement interface and prevent aquaplaning. It is an important factor in influencing wet skid resistance at higher speeds.

This property can be measured using the volumetric patch method described in IS EN 13036-1.

Milestone can also provide measurement using a laser system to enable the Mean Profile Depth to be calculated at one metre intervals as allowed for in Clause 921 of the NRA Specification for Roadworks.
