Light Weight Deflectometer (LWD)

The Light Weight Deflectometer (LWD) is a portable device consisting of a circular plate which is placed on the foundation layer, and a weight which is dropped on to this plate via a damping mechanism. Measurements of the load applied and the resulting deflection can be used to calculate the layer stiffness.

The PRIMA100 LWD used by Milestone allows for rapid determination of the bearing capacity of foundation layers. This is essential to ensure adequate support for the upper pavement layers, and prevent premature failure.
