A critical property of pavement surfaces is skid resistance, which enables vehicles to manoeuvre safely.
Skid resistance refers to measurement of surface friction characteristics in standardised conditions. The measurements are made on wet roads and can be used to characterise the surface and assess the need for maintenance.
The Griptester is used to measure this property and allow comparisons between surfaces, and with specifications.
Processing of data from the Griptester results in a Grip Number (GN) and this can be used to estimate SCRIM values based on correlation trials carried out by Jacobs Babtie.
